TGSUMC Prepares for New CY

Council Chair Sets Agenda for CY10

Re-elected Council Chairperson Gen. Roland I. Pattugalan enumerated seven goals or objectives that he urged TGSUMC officers and members to take to heart and to fulfill.  In the first church council meeting for the conference year 2009-2010 held last June 14, 2009, Gen. Pattugalan listed down these objectives as follows:

· Total membership care and concern; n invigorating and dynamic worship services every Sunday and Wednesday (midweek service);

· The need to give the tithe and love offering sacrificially, willingly and lovingly;

· Increase the synergy of all organizations (UMM, UMW, UMYF, UMYAF, Christian Education Department);

· Strengthen our mission/evangelism efforts so we can have new mission areas;

· To finish our “Project Love” building soonest;

· To strengthen our “Prayer Warriors” advantage.

The Discipline of Prayer

“This last concern is our best weapon by which we can achieve all our other objectives and tasks,” said Gen. Pattugalan. “With fervent prayers we can achieve all things,” he added.  Prayer is a Christian discipline that should be embraced by all who profess Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Long-term Goals

Completion of Project Love remains TGSUMC’s long-term goal. It will house our church offices and provide space for conferences and meetings of QC-PACE and hopefully, we can host the Phil. Central Conference in 2012 or 2016.

Meanwhile, our Marinduque Mission will celebrate its second foundation anniversary next month. We are committed to support this mission as a concrete example of our efforts to spread the Gospel.

 Church Welcomes New Workers

      A bienvenida/despedida luncheon tendered by the Church Council for our new and returning church workers was held right after the English worship service last May 31, 2009.  The fellowship hall was overflowing with well-wishers, complemented by generous servings of food.

The new pastoral team was then introduced during our four worship services during Communion Sunday on June 7.  New faces in the pastoral team include Pastor Reynaldo Rocena who will be serving the Ilocano congregation and Payatas Mission Point, and Pastor David Jonathan (DJ) Alcantara, our youth pastor and concurrent preacher for the vesper service. (see related story on page 4).

Deaconess Roselle Garrino was retained for her second straight year while Rev. Cleto Noble Pera will be serving TGSUMC for the 8th year.  Also retained were Rev. Dan Miranda and Deaconesses Cleanor Ladia and Violy Solangon. We bade goodbye to Pastors Medardo Rasing and Emilio Manaois.

A New Leaf

With Gen. Roland I. Pattugalan

        The Good Samaritan UMC has seen the ascension of a new set of officers for this conference year 2009-2010. Imbued with the same sense of purpose as the church’s vision and mission, this new set of officers have taken their commitment to heart. They were formally installed and recognized in the different services. The raising of the congregations’ hands in prayer after each installation saw them being sent forth and ‘commissioned’ to work for this conference year.

With the “Project Love phase 2” as a major thrust for this year, the board was encouraged to continue to identify support financially and spiritually for this initiative. It is aimed at expansion of the church’s physical infrastructure to create more space for worship as a response to the growing four congregations. The chairperson, Gen. Roland Pattugalan commended and spoke well of the emergent numbers of young people who are elected into the church board and actively participate and take on posts in the different committees. It is a sign of maturity and responsibility as the next generation takes on the mantle of leadership in the coming conference year to foster continuity in the vision and mission that Good Samaritan has purposed it to do.
